Overview of Role:

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is a global independent construction, property and management consultancy, shaping the future of the built environment by providing services that ensure successful and sustainable outcomes for our clients.  Our Project and Programme Managers support our clients to deliver their projects, from homes to workplaces, schools to roads, whatever type or scale of projects they have the skills and experience to help ensure projects complete on time and on budget, and achieve the business objectives our clients have priortised.  Our Apprentice Project Managers join client focused teams and work with a wider team of project management professionals to help deliver successful projects.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Providing project management over the lifecycle of a project, supporting agreement of the tasks, meetings and reports required to ensure the successful delivery, and then ensuring these are carried out 
  • Helping establish and implement the project controls that are needed to manage the project, for example risk management, change management and creation of programmes to manage time/schedule
  • Overseeing project initiation and design, assisting with the management of multi-disciplinary project teams and stakeholders, supporting the planning application process, and helping oversee preparation of key stage reports.
  • Helping establish the strategies that will be needed to procure (purchase) the services and works needed for the project, complying with established procurement/commercial/contractual strategies. 
  • Assisting in procurement processes, supporting creation of tender documents, managing queries, evaluation of bids and preparation of contract documentation.
  • Support in the administration of building contracts during the construction stage, managing progress on site and supporting communication with the selected contractor.  Support handover of the project at the end of construction.
  • Become aware of all areas of the RLB business, understanding how you can contribute to creating an environment where our People can thrive, we deliver our Services excellently for our existing clients, identify and secure new Customers and ensure we are aware of commercial Profitability. 
  • Take personal responsibility for complying with Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
  • Carry out assigned duties efficiently and in accordance with processes and procedures

 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Off-the-job training will be provided by the University College of Estate Management (UCEM). You will achieve a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited BSc (Hons) Construction Management. Rather than attending formal lectures or classes, you’ll study using UCEM’s state-of-the-art online learning environment and digital library, supported with guidance from highly experienced tutors. Upon completion of the BSc (Hons) Construction Management and the structured workplace learning you will undertake the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence leading to registration with the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor (Project Management).

Once qualified, there are opportunities to advance your career with RLB and be involved with a wide range of projects across a variety range of sectors.

Things to consider

As well as working in our office you will be required to travel to sites and client offices within the area in which you work . Full driving licence desirable but not essential.
